Overview
of High Blood Pressure |
|
| |
Blood pressure refers to the force of blood against the
walls of the arteries, veins, and the chambers of the
heart as it is pumped through the body.
With high blood pressure, there is a greater force against
the arteries, which over time, begins to damage the lining
of the blood vessels. It can lead to atherosclerosis,
also known as hardening of the arteries. |

Causes
of High Blood Pressure |
|
| |
Heredity is a predisposing factor, but
the exact mechanism is unclear. There is usually more
than one factor involved.Diet, atherosclerosis, high
cholesterol, diabetes, stress, and obesity are just some
of the possible environmental factors. These factors may
affect blood pressure more in people with genetic susceptibility. |

What are Cardiovascular Tonics?
|
|
| |
A group of
herbs, known as cardiovascular tonics, are uniquely suited
for treating problems of the heart and blood vessels. While
not having the dramatic, rapid and often life-saving effects
of many cardiological drugs, they have a definite advantage
when treating or preventing chronic degenerative conditions.
In addition to tonic remedies for the heart there are
also tonics for the blood vessels, often rich in constituents
called flavones. These remarkable
herbs include Hawthorne, Coleus Forskolii, Olive Leaf
Extract, Odorless Garlic, B6, B12, and Folic Acid all
found in Blood Pressure Protect™. |

Hawthorn |
|
| |
Hawthorn is a common thorny shrub that
grows up to five feet tall on hillsides and in sunny wooded
areas North America, Europe, western Asia, and North Africa.
Bioflavonoid complexes, found in the leaves, flowers,
and berries of hawthorn, are believed responsible for
the herbs positive health and medicinal benefits. These
include the plant's cardiac benefits, including improvement
of blood flow. Hawthorn may also be useful for the treatment
of other conditions such as angina, atherosclerosis,
hypertension, and some arrhythmias. Chemicals in hawthorn
may act directly on the heart muscle to increase the
force of heartbeats and to relax the arteries around
the heart.Hawthorn may also work indirectly by widening
blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. As a
result, it may also help to stabilize blood pressure. |

Coleus
Forskolii |
|
| |
Coleus is an ancient member of the mint
family and grows in the mountains of India, Thailand,
and Nepal. It has a long-standing medicinal use in Asian
medicine. Recent research has shown that the active ingredient
of coleus (Coleus forskohlii) is forskolin. Forskolin
has been found to increase our body's levels of cAMP (cyclic
adenosine monophosphate), which plays a major role in
a variety of cellular functions. This activity inhibits
histamine release in allergic reactions, relaxes arteries
and smooth muscles of the heart, increases thyroid function,
increases fat-burning lipolysis, and increases insulin
secretion.Scientists are only just learning about the
many benefits of coleus. |

Olive
Leaf Extract |
|
| |
Olive leaf has a wide number of constituents,
including oleuropein and several types of flavonoids (e.g.,
rutin, apigenin, luteolin). Olive leaf has been found
to decrease blood pressure (e.g., systolic and diastolic)
and dilate the coronary arteries surrounding the heart.
Olive Leaf has also been used for lowering blood pressure
and in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension. |

Oderless
Garlic |
|
| |
There have been a number of studies examining
the effects of garlic supplements on blood pressure.Garlic
appears to lower blood pressure by 5 to 10%. It can also
lower cholesterol, reduce triglyceride levels, discourage
clot formation, and promote blood circulation. |

Folic
Acid Plus B12 |
|
| |
Our bodies manufacture Homocysteine, and
high levels are now thought to be a risk factor for heart
disease. Three B vitamins (B6, B12, and folate) convert
homocysteine into amino acids. If you are deficient in
these vitamins, especially folate, homocysteine may build
up and damage blood vessels, starting the cascade of events
that lead to a heart attack.I |
